Daily Azalea is a weekday digest of technology news about Japan, edited by a small desk in Bunkyo, Tokyo. This leaflet explains what personal information passes through the site and the desk, and how we treat it under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI).

Reading costs you nothing in data terms. There are no reader accounts on the site, no comment system, no analytics script and no advertising tags.

When you open a page, our hosting provider's server receives the technical details every browser sends: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. They sit in short-lived server logs used to keep the site running and to spot abuse. We do not combine those logs with anything else or use them to profile readers.

The form on the contact page does not send anything by itself. It opens your own email app with the message filled in, and nothing leaves your device until you press Send there.

What we receive is therefore an ordinary email: your name as you typed it, your address and whatever you wrote. The same applies if you write to desk@daily-azalea.com directly or call +81 3-3202-4173.

A letter is used for the reason it was sent: checking a correction against the source article, removing a link a publisher asked us to take down, answering a licensing or subscription question, or replying to a reader.

When a correction you flagged leads to a change, the visible correction note describes what changed. It never names who reported it unless you ask to be credited.

Many letters come from newsrooms and press offices whose stories appear on the rack. Names and job titles in those letters are handled like any other correspondence. We keep a short note of each takedown request so the same link is not added back by mistake.

Every card on the rack leads to another publisher's site. Once you click through, that publisher's privacy policy and cookies apply, not ours, and we receive no information about what you read there.

Letters sit in an access-protected mailbox read only by the editors who answer them. Our email and hosting providers process data on our behalf under their own security obligations. Where any of them store data outside Japan, we rely on providers that keep protections equivalent to those the APPI requires.

We do not sell, rent or swap personal information, and we disclose it to authorities only where Japanese law requires it.

Correspondence about a correction or takedown is kept for up to two years, because questions about a change sometimes come back months later. Other letters are deleted once the matter is closed, normally within twelve months. Server logs are rotated by the host within about thirty days.

You may ask us to disclose the personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, or to stop using it. Write to desk@daily-azalea.com from the address you used before, so we can confirm the request is yours. We reply within the same one-business-day window we use for corrections, and there is no charge.

If we learn that correspondence has been exposed to someone who should not see it, we will tell the readers affected and report to the Personal Information Protection Commission where the APPI requires it.

A good share of the rack's readers are abroad: analysts in Seoul, engineers in Hsinchu, policy teams in Brussels. Daily Azalea is run from Tokyo, so the APPI governs how we handle your letter. If the law where you live gives you additional rights, such as those under the GDPR, write to the desk and we will honour an equivalent request in the same way.

The site is written for professionals and students following technology policy and industry. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly keep letters from them; if a parent tells us a child has written, we delete the correspondence.

If the way the site handles data changes, for example if a newsletter sign-up is ever added, this leaflet is updated first and the revision date at the top changes with it. We have no plans to add analytics or advertising; if that ever happens, it will be said plainly here.
